The supermarket has issued an allergy warning over its Dairyfine Salted Caramel Filled Gonks as they may contain undeclared peanuts
Aldi has issued a recall for one of its festive treats, the Dairyfine Salted Caramel Filled Gonks, due to undisclosed health risks. The supermarket chain warned customers not to consume the product as it may contain peanuts, an ingredient not listed on the packaging, posing a potential health hazard for those with peanut allergies, according to the Food Standards Agency.
The company has been advised to liaise with relevant allergy support groups who will inform their members about the recall. Aldi has also posted a point-of-sale notice for its customers.
The recall pertains to the 90g Filled Gonks with any best before date and a batch code of 4061463276865.
Customers who have purchased the product and have a peanut allergy are advised not to eat it. The recall notice advises: “Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.”
In a statement, Aldi said: “We apologise that this product did not meet our normal high standards and thank you for your co-operation.”, reports the Mirror.
This is not the first time Aldi has had to recall a product due to undeclared peanuts. Just last month, the supermarket recalled its Dairyfine Crispy Choc Um’s over similar concerns.
Customers were asked to return the product to their nearest store for a refund and the supermarket issued an apology.
Allergy charity Anaphylaxis UK responded to the news on October 31, stating: “We have been alerted by ALDI that it is recalling Dairyfine Crispy Choc Um’s from sale because they may contain peanuts which is not correctly declared on the ingredient label.
“The product is therefore unsuitable for and should be avoided by anyone with an allergy or intolerance to peanuts.”
