It might not always be our first instinct to check out TV presenters wardrobes when it comes to occasionwear, but last week Alex Jones showed exactly how effortlessly chic you can look, even when sitting on a host’s sofa. The One Show presenter opted for a flattering navy midi dress from Reiss to host Tuesday June 17’s show, and we couldn’t help but admire how perfect the dress would be for some of our upcoming occasions.

The Asher Wave-Trim Crepe Midi Dress in Navy strikes just the right balance of understated and elegant, with its navy and white colour combo making it much less stark than a black and white ensemble. What made it stand out, though, was the wavy scalloped trim which not only offered some contrast, but created a flattering illusion to accentuate your figure.

These details on the Asher Wave-Trim Midi Dress (£198) have been carefully placed to contour and sculpt your silhouette, giving a slimming illusion thanks to their placement under the bust and down the sides of the dress. The straps are also made with the same wavy pattern which draws attention to your shoulders.

It’s made from a soft stretch crepe which smooths and clings to your figure and gives it a polished finish, with a side slit to give it some extra comfort and movement. Summer is prime time for events and occasions with race days, weddings and garden parties galore, and Alex’s midi dress is absolutely perfect for wearing to any of these.

It is, however, also understated enough that you could easily pack it for holiday and wear it with sandals and some statement jewellery for a less formal look. It does also come in two other colours apart from navy, with a burgundy and a pale pink option also available.

If you do prefer a less figure-hugging fit but still love the illusion that Alex’s dress creates, we spotted this great alternative at Nobody’s Child. The Black Linen-blend Contrast Trim Acacia Midi Dress is slightly more affordable at £99, and is made from a breezy linen material.

It also features similar wavy patterned trim on the shoulders, neckline and around the waist, as well as on the tiers of the A-line skirt. It’s fitted around the bodice, but flares out at the hips for a flowy, loose fitting look that’s perfect for staying comfortable in the heat.

We also spotted this Black Contrast Trim Split Hem Maxi Dress on sale at New Look for £26.09 (down from £28.99), which features a loose fitting straight-cut silhouette with wave-patterned details on the neckline and down the front. It is, however, selling out quickly so you’ll need to be quick if you do want to get your hands on it.

However, if you want to pick up Alex’s Asher Wave-Trim Midi Dress from Reiss, it’s still available in all sizes from a six to a 16, with only the size four and size 18s out of stock in navy. However you can pick up the burgundy version in all sizes, whilst the pale pink currently only has sizes eight and 18 out of stock.
