A dolphin has been seen swimming in the River Thames this week, according to videos and photos sent to MyLondon. A black and white dolphin was spotted on Wednesday (July 31) appearing out of the water in Wapping, before diving back in and swimming alongside a boat.
At first, only the dolphin’s fin can be seen, before more of its head pops up as it surfaces. A video was captured of the dolphin, which can be seen swimming in the river, with the back of the Town of Ramsgate pub behind it.
The sighting comes after a shark may have been spotted in the Thames last week. A mysterious object was filmed in the river near Hammersmith Bridge, according to reporting in the Telegraph.

This was later believed to be a 5ft long shark, but this has not been confirmed. Other dolphin sightings include a pair of dolphins spotted swimming at Gallions Reach in the East London Docklands area.
On August 1, rowers from Barn Elms Boathouse also spotted a dolphin while out on the water. But concerns have been raised for a dolphin seen on its own near Hammersmith Bridge also on Thursday, August 1.
It was looking “lethargic” according to eyewitnesses, and it’s “concerning” when common dolphins make their way into the Thames, Mary Tester, Thames Area Coordinator at British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) told the Evening Standard. She said that when dolphins come this far up the Thames, it’s a warning sign.
