The retailer has made a crucial price change to one popular membership, but we’ve found a way to ditch the fee and save money
As the retailer and streaming site price hikes in 2024 continue, Amazon has announced it will be upping the price of a popular subscription. This summer the price of its Kids+ membership will go up by £1 per month, with no new features to show for it.
The new £4.99 monthly cost is on Amazon’s all-in-one subscription that provides kids access to a handful of age-appropriate entertainment and educational content. Those who’ve bought a kids version of a Fire Tablet, Echo Dot, Kindle, or want to download it onto any at-home device (it doesn’t have to be from Amazon).
In a statement, the retailer said: “As of 5th of June 2024 we have changed the Amazon Kids+ Prime member price of our monthly plan from £3.99 to £4.99 per month. The Prime member price of our annual plan will remain the same at £38 per year.”

As the annual subscription price is staying the same this means parents are better off paying for 12 months all at once than splitting the cost into monthly payments – as it’ll save a huge £21.88. The ‘remain the same’ annual plan costs £38 per year as opposed to the £59.88 total if you were to add up all individual monthly payments.
The new prices will come into effect on or after 8th July, in just over a month, and subscribers will see the new rate added to their next billing cycle. Amazon continued to say that despite the hike the content will stay the same.
It said: “We will continue to provide families with the fun, learning, and peace of mind that comes from thousands of ad-free, age-appropriate apps, videos, games and books, kid-specific Alexa experiences, and easy-to-use parental controls.”
To save on the price hike parents can opt for the annual plan to save £21.88 and or make the most of its current one-month free trial, here. The Amazon Kids Fire HD 8 Tablet is currently £70 cheaper to buy, and anyone who opts for the device will get a one year Kids+ subscription for free – another way to avoid the price hike.
It’s not the first price hike this 2024, Netflix has recently clamped down on password sharers, charging an extra £4.99 to anyone who hands their login out. And Disney+ fans will now have to opt for the Premium £10.99 per month plan if they want to watch its content on any more than two devices at home.
