A health product which claims to be hydrating and potentially helpful to athletes has been recalled after Salmonella was found in a dodgy batch. Natural food supplement brand Orgenism has recalled Eggshell Membrane Capsules, according to the Food Safety Agency (FSA), which also said the bad batch is for sale on Amazon.

All batches of 60 capsules, requiring 500mg per serving, are to be sent to Oregnism via a free pre-paid returns envelope and a full refund. You can contact the company on [email protected] to find out more.

The FSA said: “Orgenism is recalling the above product. Amazon and Orgenism sales of this product have stopped. A point of sale notice will be displayed on Orgenism website.

“These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product. Please see the attached photo of the product.”

Salmonella comes from germs found in the gut of several birds and animals. According to the NHS, symptoms include severe diarrhoea which can last for a number of days. It is spread via poor hand sanitation and can be particularly dangerous for very young and old people.

Public Health Authorities say that if you’ve used the bad batch then seek medical help, whether it’s from your GP or by calling 111. Remember, send the product back even if you feel ok as it needs to be safely destroyed as it is resistant to several antibiotics. The capsules must not but flushed down the toilet or put in any bin.
