Getting your gardens ready for summer is no mean feat, especially if you have lawns to take care of, but regularly cutting the grass is one of those chores that none of us look forward to, and it can be made even more difficult by using the wrong lawnmower.

Whilst corded lawnmowers are great as they’re always ready to go with no charging needed, they do pose the problem of making sure your cables reach far enough, as well as ensuring you have a plug socket nearby. You also run the risk of getting the cable stuck in the blades which renders it useless. That’s why more people are swapping to cordless models, like this Greenworks 40V Cordless Lawnmower.

The Greenworks lawnmower is currently available on Amazon, and for a limited time you can save yourself almost £100 on it. Usually priced at £349.99, it’s now on sale for £259.99 if you want to get the necessary 2Ah batteries included in it, or you can save even more money if you want to buy just the lawnmower without the batteries, which is priced at £209.99.

The cordless lawnmower cuts medium sized lawns measuring up to 500m² before it needs recharging, with each battery covering up to 250m². This is touted as being the same power and performance as a petrol driven mower, just without the added noise, mess or environmental impact.

If you opt for the complete kit which includes both batteries, you’ll have one to use and the other can be busy charging up, so you simply need to swap them over mid-mow if your lawn is larger than 250m². The lithium 40V 2Ah are also usable in any other Greenworks 40V tools.

The Greenworks 40V Cordless Lawnmower lets you switch between five different cutting heights and has a two-in-one mulching or collection option, letting you either collect the clippings in the attached 50L bag, or mulch them into tiny pieces to return nutrients to your lawn. The large 18cm rear wheels also make it easy to manoeuver over different types of ground, and it has fold-down top handle for steering.

Elsewhere Argos has the slightly less powerful McGregor 31cm Cordless Lawnmower – 18V, which is also more affordable at £100. Meanwhile if you do prefer the reliable power of an electric mower, the Hyundai 15” / 38cm 1600w Electric Lawn Mower is currently on sale down from £139.99 to £119.99, with a sizeable 10 metre long power cable.

However the Greenworks 40V Cordless Lawnmower has also been highly praised by Amazon shoppers, with one reviewer saying it was “Lightweight. Easy to manoeuvre.”

They also added: “I wanted to replace my petrol mower with something easier to move around. Modern batteries are becoming more efficient therefore making this product a real alternative to a lawnmower with an engine. I was able to cut all my lawns, and I have quite a large area, with the two batteries supplied. No more messing around with servicing or buying petrol, this machine needs no maintenance. Just give it a quick wipedown and clean, that’s all it needs. Most of the parts are plastic, so although this makes it seem ‘cheap’ in appearance, this does help to make it light enough to move around with relative ease. The large box does well in picking up all the cut grass, certainly much improved over my petrol mower. There is an attachment supplied which allows you to leave the grass on the lawn if desired, as a mulch. I probably won’t use this. I’ve also the added bonus of charging the batteries using my solar panel so I can run the mower for free. Both batteries together gave around 40 minutes of use, enough for my lawns and they take only about 30 to 40 minutes each to re-charge.”

Another agreed: “Well packaged, very little assembly needed. The claim of being able to cut to 450m2 is accurate with the two supplied batteries. Really happy with the cut and quality.”

One mentioned: “Very impressed with the mower. Powerful and easy to use whether collecting the grass or mulching. But.. only 4 stars because of the low capacity 2Ah batteries. One battery just enough for my modest lawn, but sometimes needs the second – an irritation to have to change the battery part way through a job. It really should be marketed with a 4Ah battery.”

Whilst another said: “Just purchased and very happy overall, I can however only get about 20min out of the 2AH battery. i dont know why GW sell this with a 2AH battery when they do a 4AH battery. I cut some short 25mm and some long grass over 50mm and it does do the job slight struggle on the longer grass and I would prefer a shoot grass out back option rather than mulching as that does put a bit more stress on the machine. Very lightweight and easy to move good piece of kit IMO.”
