With a battery life of up to 13 hours, featuring a light and thin chassis, buyers can take their Fire HD on the go to add a little extra entertainment to long commutes. It’s ideal for those with Prime Video as it features FireOS’ native Amazon integration, although it is lacking in Play Store connectivity out of the box, meaning some users won’t be able to readily download Android-compatible apps.
With a screen made from aluminosilicate glass, which is glass that’s been additionally strengthened with chemicals, buyers can rest assured that it’s both durable and portable, being easily thrown in a backpack or handbag to take on the go. Amazon shoppers of the Amazon Fire HD 8 tablet were surprised by the amount of performance it packed for the value.
One buyer said: “Great 2nd tablet for the kitchen once Play Store was added, best advised to purchase 64 GB storage and 4 GB memory to ensure adequate performance. The perfect time to purchase is during prime sales periods when they are a better alternative to generic Android tablets, also aimed as budget devices as you can update these every few years during sales and trade-ins when models are updated.
“Very much best suited for internet and entertainment use vs productivity.” Another added: “I bought this on a sale and it was too much of a bargain to let go, very glad I did as it is a neat little product that sometimes is just easier to grab and jump onto to do tasks than getting the notebook out.
“Definitely a worthwhile option to have and the quality is not bad, the size is just perfect, personally would not want it any bigger for what I use it for, and the apps I need are all available, so a win situation.”
A third added: “Really pleased with this for under £50. I had a much older Kindle Fire HD 10, which was alright but I bought it during lockdown, and it was an older model even then, so this new one is lightning fast in comparison.”
One user, however, missed the ability to download Play Store apps; they said: “Super product, far faster than the previous model. The operating system being chained down and not able to access the Play Store is unfortunate.”
Another said: “It’s not lightning fast, for the price I wouldn’t expect it to be, but it’s absolutely fine for browsing and definitely better than my previous tablet. It wouldn’t be suitable for someone who wants something to multitask or play games, but for the price I paid, I don’t think there’s anything comparable. It’s lightweight, and the size makes it easy to hold and stick in a bag or pocket.”
