Jon Barr headed to the London Borough of Kensington where he sampled reviewed the ‘most British meal ever’ for his fellow Americans at a traditional English pub
An American man has shared his thoughts after travelling to London to sample what he described as the “most British meal ever”. Jon Barr headed to The Cadogan Arms pub on Kensington’s King’s Road – known for its classic British meals and roast dinners.
“It’s my first time trying what could be the most British meal of all time,” he began in a TikTok video. “I tried my first Sunday roast – think of it as England’s answer to Thanksgiving except it is every single week,” Jon told his American followers. He proceeded to detail each course before sharing his thoughts with his followers.
Jon revealed his slap-up meal began with a black pudding Scotch egg, something he hailed, “blew my mind” alongside an Irish soda bread steak tartare on the side. “It was fresh, sharp and way better than I expected,” he continued.
Then for the main – for which indulgent Jon opted for a sharer board. “It was stacked with native rump of beef and bone marrow gravy, slow-roasted pork belly – my personal favourite, crispy and rich – and a shoulder of lamb,” he said.
“It was super tender and packed with flavour,” Jon enthused of the latter.
With room left for dessert, he concluded his experience by sampling a rhubarb crumble, strawberry trifle and a sticky toffee pudding.
Summarising, Jon closed: “This was Thanksgiving without the turkey. Honestly, a must-do for any first timer in England.”
Writing in response, one confused Brit asked: “Why do people hold Scotch eggs in such high regard when it comes to British food? Literally no one eats them.”
A second person quipped: “This looks lush. Now you need to find someone’s mum to cook it for you. Or do a Toby Carvery.”
Whilst a third TikTok user advised Jon: “Sunday roast at home usually consists of one type roast meat, roast potatoes, parsnips, carrots, green veg and Yorkshire pudding with thick gravy.”
The Cadogan Arms boasts online: “With a food offering focused on provenance, seasonality and traceability, we celebrate the very best of British produce alongside carefully selected wines, bespoke beers and classic cocktails, reimagining ‘the humble pub’ with a public house of which Chelsea, and London, can be proud.”
As several TikTok users pointed out, however, Jon’s meal doesn’t come cheap. The pub’s Sunday menu reveals the Sunday Sharer Board can be snapped up for £36.50 per person – whilst individual portions of the Native Rump of Beef, Slow Roasted Pork Belly and Shoulder of Lamb set customers back £34, £30 and £75 respectively.
