American tastes and rates UK McDonalds items

An American has given his verdict on the new McDonald’s menu and there were a couple of items in particular that he singled out. Professional ghost hunter and foodie Kalani Smith is currently touring the UK trying out dishes and couldn’t resist stopping off at the famous fast-food chain for a refuel.

In a recent TikTok video, the Nashville man says: “It’s 10:30 at night and I am craving some Mickey D’s and Irn-Bru, baby. Let’s get it.” After a pit stop at a Marks and Spencer to pick up his fizzy drink, Kalani enters a McDonald’s, saying: “I am hefty American and we’re about to go inside and try some of the new items here at McDonald’s in the UK.”

He ordered a hot cross bun pie, halloumi fries, a McCrispy Deluxe chicken burger, and a McPlant burger. “This is a chicken burger, as you guys call it over here. I call it a chicken sandwich, ” he says sitting down at a table with his array of food.

He then chomps down on each item and gives his thoughts, with the McPlant burger clearly at the bottom of his list. “You guys know how I feel about vegan food – it’s just not my forte. I don’t get this fat-eating vegan food,” Kalani says before grimacing after a couple of bites and adding: “I do not like that.”

Following a “swig” of drink he moves on to the halloumi fries that he describes as “mini marinara cheese sticks” and gives a “pretty good seven out of 10” and confirms that the vegan burger scored a lowly “four”. The hot cross bun pie surprised him nicely, but not before burning his mouth a little, adding: “I need to get me a real hot cross bun – I’ve never had one – but this tastes yummy.

“I’d give this an eight out of 10.” The meal he was most looking forward to, though, was the McCrispy, saying: “Take a look at that nice toasted bun. It’s got some bacon and nice crispy chicken, some good-looking lettuce.”

Although he felt that the chicken burger itself had been “sitting back there for a while” it was “still really good” and that sauce and bun were especially tasty. “This tastes really good though, a really sold chicken burger. I’d give this probably an 8.2,” he finished.

More than 1,400 people responded to the Kalani Ghost Hunter post, with one happy viewer commenting: “I love the fact he’s using British phrases when he comes over ..like “swig” ..and I’ve seen him use “quid”.”

Another urged: “Go to Marks & Spencer for the Hot Cross Buns! They are the best,” while one user suggested that the American should go a little earlier in the day for a “life-changing” experience: “Have a breakfast from McDonald’s. please get a double sausage and egg McMuffin meal but with an extra patty. It’s life-changing.”
