Sometimes it’s good to get out of your comfort zone, especially when it comes to food. After all, there are so many different delicacies to try that it seems rude not to sample something new every now and then, but one American was left a little underwhelmed when he tucked into a roast dinner for the first time ever.

The man was captured in a TikTok video sampling a roast, and he couldn’t quite get over the experience, with parts of the recipe appearing to leave him confused. As well as sampling all the vegetables, he was handed some bread sauce and mint sauce to try, and it wasn’t quite what he expected.

In the clip, shared by AJ Slambino, you can see that a feast had been laid out on the table. As they sat down to eat, there were even pigs in blankets and stuffing on offer – it really was a roast with all the trimmings.

He’s seen saying: “I’ve never had mint sauce. There’s a lot going on here, ok? There’s a little kick to it. It’s not spice – it’s like that flavour. It’s vinegar.

“I’m going to be honest, I don’t know if I would eat this again. I don’t like the vinegar taste.”

He then moves on to try the bread sauce, but he seemed to like this a lot more. The critique was heard adding: “Yeah, that’s divine. Mint sauce though, I don’t think I’d do mint sauce again. I think I would pass on that.”

Since the video was shared, it’s been viewed hundreds of times, and people were quick to comment too. Some Brits couldn’t get over the fact that he didn’t like mint sauce.

One said: “Mint sauce with everything, every roast, all of them.” Another added: “Mint sauce on everything with gravy.”

A third replied: “Mint sauce goes with any roast in my opinion. At the very least, make a mint gravy.” Meanwhile, a fourth also commented: “Bread sauce is in the elite tier.”

Others had different ideas though, as someone else suggested: “Always mint jelly, not mint sauce. It’s sweeter and not like vinegar.” One more also chimed in with: “Bread sauce is for chicken and turkey, mint sauce is for lamb.”

Despite having mixed feelings about aspects of the dish, AJ reveals he managed to clear his plate at the end. Overall, he must have thought it tasted pretty good, as not a scrap was left.

Most people tend to eat mint sauce with lamb, and there’s a good reason why. As the vingear gives it a lively tang, it’s able to cut through the richness of lamb with just the right amount of acid, fragrance and sweetness.

Meanwhile, bread sauce is usually served alongside a classic roast chicken or turkey. Many Brits pair it with white meat, esepcially at Christmas time.
