An American in the UK has shared the moment he tried a Terry’s Chocolate Orange for the first time, but his reaction left Brits in hysterics over one thing.

Terry’s Chocolate Orange has become a staple in most British households around Christmas since it was first released in 1932. The brand advertises the their 145g classic chocolate orange as: “a subtle combination of delicious milk chocolate and real orange oil. To understand the hype regarding the chocolate, and American named Russ, who is currently living in the UK, decided to try a chocolate orange for the first time – but it didn’t go how he’d expect it.

While Russ often goes viral on TikTok, where he has over 85,800 followers, by sharing the culture shocks he’d experienced since moving across the Atlantic, he often also shares his reaction with trying British foods and treats.

And since Christmas is coming up, followers urged him to try a Terry’s Chocolate Orange for the first time, as ’tis the season for them. But they couldn’t have predicted his reaction to it.

“It’s time to try more weird British food. Apparently these things are an absolute Christmas classic here in the UK,” he said as he held up a Terry’s Chocolate Orange. “I wonder if this counts as one of your five a day.”

He then burst out laughing as he noticed that the chocolate orange actually looked like a orange made of chocolate, that had even been divided into the individual slices.

“It’s literally an accurate size of an orange,” he said in disbelief. After reading that it contained real orange oil, he added: “So in a way, what I’m about to eat is a real orange.”

He then said it was time for him to give it a tastem which he did by simply taking a bite of it as if it was an apple. As you may expect if you’ve ever had a chocolate orange, it didn’t go as well as he’d thought.

“Kind of crumbly,” he said as the orange slices within the chocolate orange. “I wish it’d stayed together a little bit better, it’s kind of a mess.”

Despite this, he did say that he found the taste good, as he went back in for another bite, holding on to the slices that were barely holding on. Despite his best efforts, the orange fell apart, revealing the inner core piece of the chocolate orange which he was impressed by.

“Talk about attention to detail,” he said before taking another bite of the rest of the orange slices that were still holding together. “This is definitely a winner in my book.”

Despite this, he only ended up giving the chocolatey treat a seven out of ten, saying that despite the ‘really nice flavour, he argued that it was ‘too messy’ to eat.

“If it was just a little bit cleaner to eat, I’d probably bump it up to an eight, or an eight point five even,” he said.

As expected, Brits quickly took to the comment section of the video to express their frustrations with how the man ended up eating the chocolate orange.

“Who else screamed nooo!” one person commented, while someone else said: “My flabbers are ghasted! Why the hell did you do to that Terry’s Chocolate Orange?”

A third user wrote: “One segment at a time. I can now see why kinder surprise is banned in the states.”

Someone else went on to share the ‘correct’ way to eat a chocolate orange, explaining: “Sir that is not how you eat a chocolate orange. You bang it on the table so the segments break apart.”

And Brits weren’t the only ones upset, as someone else said: “Every Canadian is screaming right now…READ THE INSTRUCTIONS!”
