Andy Murray has decided to bow out of the singles competition at Wimbledon, but will still compete in doubles with his brother Jamie. The former two-time Wimbledon champion has been on a tight race against time following back surgery just last weekend.
Murray was scheduled to play his first-round match against Tomas Machac this afternoon, but he has taken the ‘difficult’ decision to withdraw while he recovers from an operation to remove a spinal cyst. However, the former world number 1 player isn’t quitting this year’s tournament completely.
In a statement released by his team, they explained Murray’s tough call: “Unfortunately, despite working incredibly hard on his recovery since his operation just over a week ago, Andy has taken the very difficult decision not to play the singles this year.”

The statement continued: “As you can imagine, he is extremely disappointed but has confirmed that he will be playing in the doubles with Jamie and looks forward to competing at Wimbledon for the last time.”
