These Apple iOS 26 changes could convince shoppers to upgrade to the iPhone 16 – so we found deals to suit

Another huge Apple event held in Cupertino, California, the brand has unveiled the newest updates coming to some devices this year, and it could convince a handful of iPhone users to upgrade. At WWDC25, Apple previewed its upcoming iOS 26 software, but it won’t be compatible with all iPhones.

The updates are expected to be rolled out later this year and will bring a cleaner, refreshed, look with its Liquid Glass, a brand-new CarPlay feature – offering a safer way to use an iPhone while driving as it syncs to a cars display – and lots of trendy design updates to the lock screen.

However, Apple users with an iPhone dating back to 2018 and beyond won’t get the features, as devices including the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, the iPhone X and iPhone 8 are all exempt, a huge downside for many. It could tempt some shoppers into upgrading their mobile – and this iPhone 16e deal stands out when it comes to price.

For those looking for a brand new iPhone but without paying as much as the iPhone 16, then the iPhone 16e is a good alternative – and Sky Mobile and Mobiles.co.uk are both offering deals. Mobiles.co.uk is offering the iPhone 16e device and 100GB of monthly data can be bought for £26.99 per month.

This works out to be £1.99 more expensive than Sky Mobile’s device plan (which as less 100MB of monthly data) the mobiles.co.uk plan is on a 24-month contract, so it would leave shoppers paying £656.76 overall.

Sky iPhone 16 deal

Sky Mobile is offering a cheaper way to split the cost of Apple’s iPhone 16 handset. The provider has added the device for £22 per month (on a 36 month contract) and shoppers can add data for an extra £6 per month – bringing the total to £28 per month.

Out of all the Apple iPhone 16 deals, our tech team recommends this £29.99 per month plan. The combined data and device makes it cheaper than the £28 per month Sky Mobile plan above.

Even though we’d flag this plan as one of the best overall, shoppers should know there is a £39 upfront fee

Amazon offers the device for its usual outright price of £599 – here – but shoppers must remember that this is the phone only and doesn’t come with any data.

A look at O2 and its current sale could be an option for iPhone 16 shoppers – it’s selling the device with 50GB of monthly data for £44.55 per month on a 36-month device plan. Rivalled by retailers including Sky Mobile and giffgaff.

Apple confirmed which iPhones would be exempt from the new updates on its launch page. It says: “New software features will be available this fall as a free software update for iPhone 11 and later.

“The Apple Intelligence features detailed require supported devices, which include all iPhone 16 models, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPad mini (A17 Pro), and iPad and Mac models with M1 and later that have Apple Intelligence enabled and Siri and device language set to the same supported language.”

It’s also worth noting, however, the iPhones including the iPhone 15Pro and older will not be elligible for Apple Intelligence. So shoppers looking for the newest features should pick carefully.

This is one downside to the standard iPhone 15, for example, despite being a relatively new release (from 2023) it isn’t compatible with it.
