Ariana Grande fans were in stitches after catching a young fan’s eight-word statement while the star signed autographs at the London premiere of Wicked: For Good. The 32-year-old vocal powerhouse plays Glinda in the new film, which is the second – and final – part of the big screen adaptation of the smash hit Broadway musical.

The sequel, which will be released on November 21, sees Ariana and co-star Cynthia Erivo reprise their Academy-award nominated roles as Glinda and Elphaba, respectively. There’s been a string of premieres across the globe, with huge crowds turning out in Brazil, France, Singapore and more.

The Singapore premiere made headlines after Ariana was “rushed” by a fan who jumped over the barricade and stormed onto the yellow carpet at Universal Studios Singapore, in Resorts World Sentosa, on November 13. In footage snapped at the event, he can be seen invading her personal space and putting his arm around her.

Cynthia Erivo was quick to act, pushing him away from Ariana while shielding her as security rushed to the scene. Ariana looked startled by the unwanted encounter.

At the London premiere, the pop star was all smiles in a dramatic Gilbert Adrian 1952 black ball gown.

The star signed autographs and engaged with fans, with one interaction causing a stir after it was shared on TikTok.

In the short clip, a fan can be seen leaning over towards the singer and actress and telling her: “By the way, my cousin thinks you’re fit.”

In response, Ariana simply says: “Wow, that’s so kind.”

Social media users were quick to share their thoughts in the comments section of the video, with many marvelling at the quintessentially British terminology used to compliment the star.

One person said: “This is the best thing I [have] ever seen.” Another said: “Oh my God this is the most British thing I’ve ever seen in my life and she actually understood it? That’s even more iconic.”

A third commented: “Can’t beat British banter.” While a fourth said: “She had no idea what that meant.” Someone else said: “‘That’s so kind’ I’M DEAD.” While one TikTok user simply said: “Howling.”

Someone added: “Oh I know Cynthia had to teach her British slang after that.”

The pop star and actress originally shot to fame playing Cat Valentine on the Nickelodeon show, Victorious, in 2010, which offered her a platform that served as a launchpad for her successful music career.

Ariana Grande is known and loved for her impressive vocal range, which has been showcased in different ways through her role as Glinda in the Wicked films.

The Wicked musical, by Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman, is a loose adaptation of Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, which was based on the 1900 book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, by L. Frank Baum and the 1939 film adaptation, which starred Judy Garland.

The first half of the big screen adaptation was released on November 22, 2024, with the second half, Wicked: For Good, scheduled for release on November 21, 2025.
