An illustration on the side of a slide in a children’s park has left people baffled, as many question exactly what the picture is meant to feature
A baffled park-goer has appealed for help online after finding it impossible to decipher an illustration on the side of a slide. The drawing features the outline of a child facing away, who is pulling their pockets out of their trousers.
Appealing to Reddit, they asked: “What the hell is the picture on this playground meant to be? Is it someone emptying their pockets? Why is it there? It’s driving me nuts!” And because this is Reddit, commenters had lots of ideas. One wrote: “It means ‘No dressing like a seven-year-old Spanish Prince from the 17th century.”
Another savvy park-goer suggested: “Might be a warning that you shouldn’t have things in your pockets when using the slide lest you get stabbed by an old lolly stick or several “interesting” stones.” A third asked: “Only children wearing Lederhosen can play on this?” Meanwhile, another said: “Damn straight. You let that s*** get started and there’s no stopping it. Half the class up looking like child Amadeus Mozart.”

One wise person even suggested: “Just a guess, but maybe it’s telling you not to use the slide with things on your pockets, as they’ll dig in and hurt you.”
But actually – it was something much simpler (of course!). As one eagle-eyed viewer noted, it is a Wicksteed climbing frame depicting a nursery rhyme. It features Simple Simon, wringing out his pockets as he doesn’t have money for a pie – which feels apt for a children’s park during this cost of living crisis.
The poem goes: ‘Simple Simon met a pieman, going to the fair; Says Simple Simon to the pieman, Let me taste your ware. Said the pieman to Simple Simon, Show me first your penny; Says Simple Simon to the pieman, Sir I haven’t any.
‘Simple Simon went a-fishing, For to catch a whale; All the water he had got, Was in his mother’s pail. Simple Simon went to look if plums grew on a thistle; He pricked his fingers very much, which made poor Simon whistle. He went for water in a sieve. But soon it all fell through. And now poor Simple Simon bids you all adieu!’
The thread prompted others to reminisce about the state of their local park, with one person writing: “Yeah I don’t know who designs these playground things.
“My local park has a jungle gym thing, with a list of, and some small graphics of the planets on. Two issues. Pluto is on there, though I guess poor Pluto still lives in people’s hearts as a planet.
“The most egregious thing is the order. Starts off fine. Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars etc. The rest are all just scrambled up. Bugs me every time I walk by.”
