The bakery classed as “better than Greggs” is set to open new stores across the UK. Greggs is known for their affordable, grab and go food options like pastries, pizza slices, steak bakes and many sweet options.

However, their competition is slowly coming as Wenzel’s The Bakers is planning their expansion. Wenzel’s was established in 1975 and started as a family-run business which has already over 100 stores in the country. They opened nine new locations by the end of 2023. Their new and first standalone branch is set to open in Guildford on September 10 and many other locations will follow.

The chain offers everything from pizza to meal deals and is collaborating with Southern Co-op to launch new franchise stores across the country.

Wenzel’s are keeping quiet with their future information on the exact number of stores that are set to open and their locations. Wenzel’s said: “We see Co-op as a key partner in terms of strengthening our store count in both the short and long term.”

“We look forward to working with Southern Co-op on these openings to bolster our nationwide presence, offering great-tasting baked goods to communities across the UK.”

The chief of Wenzel’s, Sarah Wenzel said: “We’re delighted that Southern Co-op have chosen to be our franchise partner and are confident that our collaborative partnership will be mutually beneficial and rewarding in the coming year”.

Many online are ecstatic about this news as on X, someone commented: “Wenzel’s vegan sausage roll is better than Greggs and their doughnuts *chefs kiss*”.

Another shared: “Wenzel’s vegan sausage roll is far superior to Gregg’s, which I wasn’t sure was possible.” Another added: “Nothing can beat a hot, sugared jam doughnut from Wenzel’s.”

The sausage roll at Wenzel’s is slightly pricier than Greggs as they sell it for £2.50 compared to Greggs’ £1.30. The bakery also serves wraps for £5.60 and pasta dishes for £3.25, which again is a more expensive option for quick and easy bites.
