The expert shared their easy hacks which can help remove yellowing stains from your mattress caused by excessive sweating – and don’t worry you won’t be heading directly for the beach. The cleaning hacks include using limes, white vinegar and even baking soda to remove marks.
Too much moisture from sweat can lead to mould and can even lead to dust mites and bed bugs inviting themselves onto your mattress. Your mattress should be cleaned at least once a month if not more, to keep stains from becoming permanent and keep it in good condition altogether The Express reports.
Experts at Winstons Beds say you can use everyday items to aid the problem. Rebecca Swain, a mattress expert at Winstons Beds, said: “Yellow stains are foul, repulsive and frankly disgusting, but unfortunately it’s a normal occurrence when it comes to beds.”
“Sweating during the night can’t be helped so it’s important to give the mattress a clean otherwise you run the risk of ruining it and making the bed unhygienic to sleep on.
“Try using items such as white vinegar, washing up liquid and even limes, which only cost 24p per fruit. Make sure to give the mattress a deep clean once a month to prevent the problem from returning.”
Limes
With a high amount of citric acid, using limes, which will set you back only 24p, is recommended. You can use the fruit itself to scrub on the mattress and squeeze it gently and wipe it down with hot, soapy water.
Other hacks that can help with the yellowing stains on a mattress include white vinegar, baking soda, washing up liquid and lemons. and hydrogen peroxide. A pack of limes from Aldi will set you back £1.19, however individually they cost 24p.
White vinegar
Whilst you need to be careful when using white vinegar to not cause internal dampness, you can use a quarter of a cup of white vinegar with three parts distilled water and mix to create a cleaning solution. Then you can use a sponge to soak up the mixture and scrub it on the stains. White vinegar can be purchased from Tesco for just 35p.
Baking soda
Another method to tackle those pesky stains would be to sprinkle baking soda onto the mattress and let it sit there for a while – at least an hour for it to be fully effective. After it’s settled, scrub the stains again for better results, the baking soda should help lift the stains up from deeper crevices of the mattress. Baking soda can be bought from Sainsbury’s for 59p.
Washing-up liquid

Hydrogen peroxide
If you have a deep stain that has penetrated your mattress then this will be the most productive solution to use to tackle it, it will also work as a disinfectant to make the mattress more hygienic. It’s recommended you only use a small amount mixed with water and wipe it down. Hydrogen peroxide can be bought from Amazon for £4.99.
