The BBC’s Beyond Paradise has made a successful return, but it’s the show’s breathtaking filming locations that have left viewers in awe.

The Death in Paradise spin-off, which follows Humphrey Goodman and his team as they tackle new cases, has been well-received since its 2023 launch. The first series reportedly attracted eight million viewers, leading to a second series.

The series centres around detective Humphrey (Kris Marshall) and his fiancee Martha Lloyd (Sally Bretton) as they navigate their relationship and contemplate fostering children in the fictional Devon town of Shipton Abbott. The upcoming series teases a range of intriguing cases, including a missing teacher and a train death, alongside the potential closure of the local police headquarters.

Since its debut, the BBC series has drawn attention for its stunning landscapes, set to feature prominently again in the new series. Despite being set in south Devon, much of Beyond Paradise was filmed in south-east Cornwall.

Looe, a coastal community in Cornwall, reportedly doubles as the show’s main town. Executive producer Tim Key suggests that the town’s fishing port adds vibrancy to the on-screen location, reports the Mirror.

The show is rumoured to feature local spots such as the Port Eliot Estate, which is the ancestral home of the Eliot family, with Albert Eliot, the latest Earl of St Germans, currently at its head. Port Eliot is a stately house with its own church.

Werrington Park and the Pentillie Estate, a grade II* listed country house on the bank of the River Tamar’s bank in Paynter’s Cross, are also listed as filming locations. In addition to Looe, the Tamar Valley, Bere Ferrers and Weir Quay in Devon are said to have been used for the TV production.

The Tamar Valley has been described as a picturesque area on the border of Devon and Cornwall, with the rivers of Tamar, Tavy and Lynher flowing through it. Bere Ferrers is instead located on the Bere peninsula in Devon.

Whilst Weir Quay sits on the River Tamar’s banks.

Beyond Paradise airs tonight at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. Previous episodes of the spin-off show, as well as of Death in Paradise itself, are available through the streaming platform.
