After a very hot and dry start to Spring, Londoners are set to finally get some relief from the capital’s sun. But despite the incoming thunderstorms, it won’t be long until clear sunny skies return.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain and thunderstorms across the city for this coming weekend. Londoners can expect to see disruption to transport and travel from 9pm on Friday, July 18 until 6pm on Saturday, July 19.
There may even be flooding and power cuts throughout the yellow weather warning period. The incoming thunderstorms are forecast to be followed by several days of rain – a stark change to the hot and sunny July so far.
The downpour will last until the following Sunday (July 27) so Londoners will want to make sure they have a good brolly for their commutes next week. But fear not, the sun will soon be shining again with the rain set to clear on Monday (July 28). Things will stay partially cloudy at around 25C for a few days, before a day of clear skies and glorious sunshine on Thursday (July 31).
Met Office Chief Meteorologist Jason Kelly, said: “More warnings could be issued for the weekend and early next week. Keep an eye on the Met Office forecast for updates as the picture develops.
“Within the warm and humid airmass we will potentially see temperatures reaching 30°C or more for parts of eastern England by Friday, with very warm and muggy conditions continuing into the weekend in parts of central and southern England.”
