London is set to be hit by a day of thunderstorms soon – as summer finally starts to wane. It’s been a season to remember with four heatwaves leaving the capital’s residents sweltering.
Temperatures are already beginning to get cooler. Today (Wednesday, August 20) will see sunny intervals with a gentle breeze as the mercury rises to a peak of 22C, according to BBC Weather. It’s pattern of dry and breezy weather to last throughout the next six days, with top temperatures hovering between 21C and 23C.
The first sign of rain is expected on Tuesday, August 26, with light showers expected throughout the day. More rain is expected on Friday, August 29, Saturday, August 30, and Sunday, August 31. But things will step up a notch with a bout of thundery showers hitting London on Monday, September 1, with rainfall all day and at its heaviest between 5pm and 8pm.
BBC Weather states: “This morning will see mostly cloudy skies and a few local glimpses of sunshine. Cloud will gradually clear in the afternoon to leave lots of sunshine. A cooler day with moderate winds.
“Tonight will see areas of cloud push in from the north-east, leaving variable cloud throughout, but it should stay dry. Tomorrow morning will be dry and partly cloudy. Turning sunny for a time in the early afternoon but clouds will increase again from the north-east later.
“Settled conditions are expected later this week with high pressure overhead. Friday will be dry with sunshine in the morning and some areas of cloud developing during the second part of the day. Saturday is expected to be a cloudier day and continue to be dry, but Sunday looks to become mostly sunny again. Temperatures without significant variations.”
