Tired of crinkly sheets ruining your duvet spread? A bedding expert has shared a simple but effective hack to get rid of those pesty creases in no time. Plus, you probably already have the magic ingredient in your kitchen
Get your bedding looking like a luxury hotel spread without spending hours ironing.
Washing your duvet is without a doubt one of the most satisfying chores there is. After all, there’s nothing like the smell of fresh bedding to help you doze off to sleep (once you’ve wrestled getting the sheets on, that is). But, washing your sheets can leave them looking all crinkled and slightly dishevelled.
Unless you’re willing to iron your sheets, which let’s face it – none of us can be bothered to do – getting those stubborn creases out can seem impossible. However, experts have hailed a 18p trick to smooth out your bedding.
“Ironing wrinkles out of bedding can be an extremely long and tiring task, but luckily there are some tips and tricks to tackle the problem without an iron, says Rebecca Swain of Winstons Beds. “Simple tricks like spritzing water onto the sheets and incorporating damp socks, damp towels and ice cubes into the drying process will all help to tackle stubborn wrinkles.”
The expert recommends using baking soda, which can be picked up from a slew of online retailers and supermarkets. The Range is currently selling a 500g bottle for £1.49, which works out at just 18p per 60g (which is the amount you need to get your sheets looking fresh and creaseless).

Renowned for being an odour neutraliser, baking soda also works as a natural fabric softener which can help reduce those pesky crinkles in your sheets, as well as keep them looking pristinely white. You can add 60g of baking soda to your washing machine along with detergent and simply put the sheets on a standard cycle.
Alternatively, you can create a solution of baking soda (around half a cup) and warm water and submerge your sheets in the liquid for at least 30 minutes. After this, rinse the sheets until the water runs clear and hang them to dry and pop them in the tumble dryer on low heat.
Et voila! Hotel-standard bedding for just 18p a pop – who would’ve thought it?
