A suspected ‘bomb threat’ has meant a huge police cordon was set up around a Waitrose in Bloomsbury but the threat turned out to be a false alarm, police confirmed. The Met Police attended the scene at the Waitrose in the Brunswick Shopping Centre on Friday afternoon (June 28) and a user on X said the shopping centre and nearby Coram Street were evacuated.
Nearby Russell Square London Underground station on Bernard Street was also shut due to a ‘security alert’ according to Transport for London (TfL). The X user posted a photo of people being evacuated from the station too with a police car at the scene.
Another X user said: “Was literally coming out of there when bomb squad arrived. Heard one guy say “we’ve got one in the car park” – which is under that whole building… don’t know what he meant by ‘one’ tho…”
The Met Police said all units have since been stood down after a suspicious vehicle was checked. The London Fire Brigade was in attendance too assisting the police but have also been stood down.
