The high street health and beauty retailer will pull down shutters for good at 9pm on Tuesday, May 28, however, shoppers should not be disappointed as a new bigger Boots store will be opening nearby the very next day
Boots will be closing another pharmacy branch tomorrow as it pushes ahead with plans to shut 300 of its stores.
The closure date for the high street giant’s Queens Way store was confirmed in a sign in the window that read: “We’re closing. This store will close on 28 May 2024.” The high street health and beauty retailer will pull down shutters for good at 9pm on Tuesday May 28. However, shoppers should not be disappointed as a new bigger Boots store will be opening nearby the very next day.
The retailer said the new store – located a short walk from the old – will feature a new pharmaceutical service with a private double consultation room and will have longer opening hours. Alongside this, the new Boots branch will have a beauty hall with new brands such as IT Cosmetics, Urban Decay, The Ordinary and Liz Earle. The new store will be located at 166 – 172 Queensway.
On the new store, a Boots spokesperson said: “A brand-new Boots store is set to open in Queensway, London on Wednesday morning. The new look store includes a selection of exciting new brands and an updated health and beauty shopping experience. The existing store in Queensway will close on Tuesday evening. We look forward to welcoming customers to our new store soon.”

Even with the new store, shoppers say they are devastated about the closure. One Boot customer told the Sun: “Absolutely devastated, the pharmacy here has much more accessible hours than any other in the area.” Another said they had been coming to the pharmacy chain for 35 years.
Boots is currently pushing ahead with its cost-cutting plans to close around 300 branches. Last year Boots announced it would be reducing the number of shops from 2,200 stores nationwide to 1,900. At the time, Boots said the move would allow it to “concentrate its team members where they are needed” and to “focus investment” on individual store needs.
In most cases, Boots has said shoppers should have an alternative store less than three miles away and all affected workers will be offered alternative roles in other stores. So far this year many Boots branches have closed with places such as Wigan, Bristol, York, Pool, Cambourne, Redruth and Norfolk all losing a high street pharmacy.
Brits have not been happy with the closures with many groups across the country launching petitions to keep their local branch open. The village of Farncombe managed to completely save their branch from being shuttered after locals, councillors and MPs got involved – including the country’s Chancellor of the Exchequer Jeremy Hunt.
