The teenager killed in a Hainault attack went to the same school as murder victim Grace O’Malley-Kumar.

Yesterday (Tuesday, April 30) saw a 14-year-old killed in a sword attack in Hainault, North East London, after the suspect crashed his van into a house. The 36-year-old was Tasered and arrested, and as of today (Wednesday, May 1) remains in hospital.

Two Met Police officers also sustained stab injuries.

Now, Sky News reports that the teen attended the same school as Grace O’Malley-Kumar, the 19-year-old woman stabbed to death in Nottingham in June last year.

Ms O’Malley-Kumar’s parents are also said to have reached out to the boy’s family.

Bancroft’s school, in Woodford Green, is today flying its flag at half mast.

Lisa McDonald, head of Woodford Green Preparatory, a feeder to Bancroft’s wrote to parents on Wednesday with a “heavy heart and profound sadness” announcing the Year 9 pupil’s death.

She added: “The news of his passing is a devastating blow to his family, friends and the entire school community.

“It is difficult to comprehend such a tragic loss, especially so soon after the heartbreaking incident involving Grace O’Malley-Kumar, whose memory we continue to honour.“Our thoughts and prayers extend to the family, friends, and everyone touched by his presence and Bancroft’s and, [at] this time of immense grief, we stand together in solidarity and support.”

Yesterday’s attack appears to have been random, with a ‘critical incident’ declared as emergency services flooded the area in Ilford.

New North Road, close to Hainault Tube station, was closed after a car drove into a house in Thurlow Gardens and a man then started attacking people with the “Japanese-looking sword”.
