A 15-year-old boy was shot in Southwark on Monday night and the Metropolitan Police say it’s ‘sheer luck’ he didn’t die. The police force was called to Sumner Road, Southwark at 11.12pm to reports that a boy had been injured.
The London Air Ambulance, along with police officers and paramedics, were immediately dispatched to the scene. When they arrived, they found a boy with gunshot injuries.
He was rushed to a South London hospital by the London Ambulance Service. His condition was later assessed as not life-threatening.

However, Detective Inspector Ray Sekalongo, from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, said: “It is sheer luck that this is not a murder investigation,” and urged anyone with information or footage of the incident to come forward.
He said: “This was an attempt on the life of a 15-year-old boy and I know that there are people who can name the person responsible. Please help us remove guns from your streets by sharing what you know.”
No arrests have been made at this stage, and the police are investigating, led by Trident detectives. They are working closely with colleagues from the Central South Command Unit who police Southwark.
DI Sekalongo added: “Removing guns from our streets is a priority for the Met. The injuries caused by guns are often devastating and the effects of being a victim of gun crime linger far beyond the healing of wounds.”
Anyone with information or footage should call police on 101 or post on X @MetCC quoting reference CAD 9057/15Jul. To remain 100 per cent anonymous call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
