A 16-year-old boy has been arrested following an attempted phone theft in East London. Police were called to an attempted robbery in Leyton High Road, Leyton at around 8am today (Friday, May 30).
The suspect had reportedly attempted to steal a phone from a member of the public at around 8am. He was then arrested by the police on suspicion of theft.
He remains in police custody. A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police Service said: “Police were called at 08:04hrs on Friday, 30 May to Leyton High Road following reports of an attempted robbery.
“The suspect attempted to steal a phone from a member of the public before they were detained.
“A 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of theft and remains in custody.”
