A 16-year-old boy has been arrested after allegedly assaulting two police officers during a stop and search in Rainham earlier today (June 25). The pair required hospital treatment following the incident on Cherry Tree Lane just after 3.35am.

Their injuries have since been confirmed as neither life-threatening nor life-changing, according to a statement issued by the Metropolitan Police. The force says the teenager remains in custody whilst an investigation is carried out.

He now faces possible charges of grievous bodily harm and assault.

New Road reportedly part-closed following the incident but has reopened as of 10am. Multiple buses were put on diversion during this time.
