A 17-year-old boy is fighting for his life in hospital
A 16-year-old boy has been arrested after a teenager was seriously injured in a crash in Thamesmead. The victim, a 17-year-old boy, was struck outside Gallions Reach Health Centre shortly before 8pm last night (November 16) and taken to hospital with a head injury.
He is fighting for his life this afternoon, the Metropolitan Police confirmed in a statement. Officers detained the 16-year-old on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving without insurance, driving without a license and theft of a motor vehicle.
The teenager remains in custody whilst enquires continue. Witnesses, or anyone with information, are asked to contact police urgently.
A cordon remains in place on Bentham Road whilst an investigation is carried out. A forensics team was spotted in the health centre’s car park earlier today, residents say.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called by the London Ambulance Service at 20:06hrs on Sunday, 16 November after reports of a collision between a car and a pedestrian on Bentham Road, Thamesmead. A 17-year-old boy was taken to hospital where he remains in a life-threatening condition.
“A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of causing injury by dangerous driving, driving without insurance, driving without a license and theft of a motor vehicle. He remains in custody. Enquiries continue.”
The London Ambulance Service added: “We were called at 7.56pm on Sunday 16 November to reports of an incident on Bentham Road, Thamesmead. We sent an ambulance crew to the scene and treated a teenager for a head injury before taking them to hospital.
