Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward
A 17-year-old boy is in hospital following a shooting in Dagenham yesterday evening (September 7). The teenager managed to make his own way to hospital, where doctors have now deemed his injuries neither life-threatening or life-changing.
Police were earlier called to Braintree Road, near Heath Park, at around 6.20pm amid reports of gunshots coming from a large group of people. Upon arrival, officers found the residential street empty.
Shortly after, a nearby patrol team followed a car they believed to be suspicious to Abercorn Gardens in Chadwell Heath. A passenger was then allegedly seen discarding multiple items, including two zombie knives.
The car continued on to Ilford’s Barley Lane where it was stopped by the pursuing officers. Two teenage boys, aged 17 and 19, were arrested on suspicion of possession of offensive weapons.
They remain in custody as of this evening, the Metropolitan Police has confirmed. Enquiries into the shooting remain ongoing, the force added.
Photos taken at the scene yesterday show a cordon and a number of police cars along Braintree Road and the adjacent Stansgate Road.
Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101, quoting CAD 5654/7SEP. Anonymous reports can also be made to Crimestoppers via 0800 555 111 or the charity’s website.
