A young child’s innocent Butlin’s treasure hunt sparked confusion at the Skegness resort earlier this month after one item in the game was mistaken for something rather rude
A young boy’s innocent treasure hunt game sparked a wave of laughter at Butlin’s after one item in the game was mistaken for something much more adult in nature. Ricky Roberts, the child’s father, took to the Skegness resort’s Facebook page to share a photo of the hunt earlier this month, initially causing concern among fellow guests.
Ricky posted: “Hi, we are arriving today and my lad wanted me to post this pic as he will be hiding these round the resort all week. He would love it if found you take a pic and post it. Thank you [sic].” The youngster’s photo featured several rubber ducks, a few small aquatic toys – and three blue packets, which became a talking point. You can view the post here.
Reacting to the snap, one Facebook user joked: “I’m so sorry! I had to zoom in those lil packets looked like something else to start with! Lovely idea!” Others confessed they initially thought the items were condom packets.
Another person admitted: “I had to zoom in, I thought it was something for the kids and something for the adults!” A third quipped: “I thought this was an advert to stop having kids!”
A fourth individual pointed out: “Yeah I doubt anyone is gonna let their kids pick them packets up, to be honest I think you know exactly what they look like.”
Meanwhile a fifth Facebook user concluded: “So we all agree that we had to do a double take on that packet. Jokes aside, this is an adorable idea. Well done to this lad.”
Upon closer examination, the tear-open blue packets – which feature a heart on the front – are actually ‘mystery bags’.
Following the post, one guest revealed their daughter had managed to locate one of the ducks – although it seemed the mystery bags were hidden too well for other visitors to find.
Last month, the newly-appointed resort director of Butlin’s Skegness, Andrew Leivers, shared his vision for the beloved Lincolnshire holiday spot.
He disclosed: “We have got new shows, we have got a new Stephen Mulhern show and some pantomimes, the gladiators, and a musical show called Iconic. It’s west-end level quality.”
Andrew told Lincs Live that – in contrast to most venues where most activities come at an extra cost- at Butlin’s, most activities are included in the price you pay upfront. From the Skypark and funfair to the swimming pool, and all of the performances across the different stages, guests can enjoy an array of activities once they arrive without spending more.
He mentioned that a Chopstix restaurant “will be landing in the next couple of weeks” at the Skegness location.
Following some recent worries regarding the lodging at Butlin’s, he has also provided reassurance. Andrew explained: “We have also brought on some more contract cleaners to help us to deliver the best service possible.”
He continued: “We have been on a massive recruitment drive and we have a great thing called Team Member Plus. Butlin’s takes pride in being a major employer for the local area throughout the year, and presently employs approximately 1,200 staff members, which is “the highest number we have had for many years.”
