A bride and groom ran off on their honeymoon after saying ‘I do’ – leaving their family and guests waiting in the wedding reception hall completely baffled
A woman has opened up about her utter embarrassment after her brother skipped his entire wedding reception without any word of warning.
Getting married is on occasion when most gather all their family and friends to celebrate their love and commitment. Often people book time off work for the big day, plus spend time and money travelling, getting a new frock or dry cleaning their best suit. But imagine the disappointment when wedding guests made all that effort, only for the bride and groom to run off after the ceremony.
While the wedding day should be catered to what the loved-up couple desire, the sister of the groom cannot get past her brother’s decision to run off on his honeymoon after saying ‘I do’. His choice caused “lots of drama” and left many “upset”. Guests were left waiting in the reception hall to celebrate the newly weds who never turned up.
“I don’t understand why they would skip something that they paid for like this,” the annoyed sister wrote on Reddit anonymously.
Explaining what happened in detail, she said: “No one even knew they were going to do it except for one of their friends so it was a complete surprise and really embarrassing to be honest. After the wedding my brother and his wife were supposed to be introduced to everyone in the reception hall.
“The guests would chat and drink for an hour before the food was served. During that time all the photos would be taken. After that hour was up and the photos were done the food would get served and the reception would start.
“Their friend who was supposed to introduce them instead told everyone that my brother and his wife had left for their honeymoon and thanked everyone for attending and then the food started getting served right away. The photographer had been sent home, apparently my brother and his wife did their photos before the ceremony.”
The duo were in on their way to Bristol Airport, ready to head off on their honeymoon. The sister commented: “Obviously we were embarrassed. My parents were angry and they talked to the friend because my brother and his wife weren’t answering [their phones]. Their honeymoon was supposed to be in a few months. Apparently they cancelled it two weeks ago and switched to a different honeymoon.”
But it turns out there was a reason they did not want to attend the reception – the groom’s brother was planning on stealing their thunder. The sister added: “My other brother’s girlfriend is pregnant and they were going to announce it and that they want to get married at the reception. Only my parents had known. I didn’t even know. I don’t know how my brother who was getting married found out.”
Whispers were spreading around the wedding and the groom’s auntie and uncle reportedly started telling guests about what was going to happen. “It upset my parents and my brother and his girlfriend,” the sister wrote. “I know my brother and his wife don’t want to be parents themselves but this seems extreme, over a pregnancy.”
Over a thousand people reacted to the wedding scandal. While many were initally shocked about the bride and groom’s actions, they have now “sided with them” after hearing about the sibling’s plot to “steal the show”.
One individual said: “Truly I was thinking the bride and from groom were lunatics until the line about the other brother. Who tries to upstage somebody’s wedding like that?”
One other added: “Was on all yours side about been annoyed until I saw that your other brother and his girlfriend were going to announce their pregnancy at the reception. You don’t announce anything or get engaged at a wedding unless you have asked and got permission from the bride and groom.”
One other commented: “Your other brother and girlfriend were going to take over the reception with baby news and a wedding of their own, that is beyond disrespectful.” “Your family is mad at the wrong brother,” added one other.
