Weddings are special occasions celebrated with family and friends and one newlywed couple has been praised for their ‘hilarious’ thank you gift to their dads, who paid for their wedding
Getting married is often the most significant milestone in a coupleâs relationship, marking their commitment to spending the rest of their lives with each other. Many celebrate this special occasion with a wedding and these are typically family affairs with multiple relatives and sometimes friends playing an important role, from the maid of honour to the mother of the bride to the best man.
However, weddings can be costly with numerous elements to pay for so itâs not unusual for parents to step in and provide financial support. One newlywed coupleâs hilarious gesture has been shared on Instagram by the wedding content creation service Content By Chanait.
The video captures the moment a Yorkshire couple gave a far from traditional thank you gift to their dads for paying for their wedding, leaving the guests chuckling.
While seated at a long table adorned with white roses during the reception, at Hazlewood Castle, between Leeds and York, the groom stands up to announce that he and his wife would like to give a little something to their dads to thank them for everything they had done for them.
He passes a silver gift bag to each of the dads and one of them opens it to unveil a mug emblazoned with the cheeky message: âI paid for my sonâs wedding and all I got was this s*** mug.â
The dad looks at the mug first and lets out a laugh with a slight look of surprise before turning it towards the wedding guests in the background who found joy in the humour too and also started laughing, cheering and clapping.
The bride and groom also couldn’t help but chuckle in this candid and playful part of their big day.
Content By Chanait captioned the Instagram clip: âYou wonât believe what this groom got the fathers of the bride and groom as a thank you gift.â
It has racked up an incredible 1.9 million views, 50,900 likes and more than 100 comments, so far.
Several users found the gesture very funny with plenty of laughing face emojis in the comments section of the post.

âMy husband, bless him, searched and found 3 five shilling coins on eBay. Each coin was dated with an important year to my parents (like the year they married etc.)
âMy husband basically made his speech and then said âand lastly, I’d like to pay my debt to my father in lawâ.
âMy dad burst out laughing when he opened the presentation, then he got emotional.â
