Gunshots were fired just south of Brixton on Monday, May 20, smashing a window of a nearby supermarket, Met Police has confirmed. Thankfully, there were no gun-related injuries reported at the scene but a woman did graze her knee when hurling herself to the floor in the panic.
Police were called to Tulse Hill in Brixton at 10pm last night and found evidence of firearms being discharged at the scene. No arrests have been made but Tulse Hill has been closed between Brailsford Road and Brixton Water Lane since 10pm yesterday and Brixton Water Lane itself is closed.
An anonymous witness said: “My partner and I heard four or five gunshots last night. The Sainsbury’s on the corner has a window smashed and has a sign on the door saying it’s closed until further notice due to a police incident”

The Met Police confirmed the shooting in a statement. A spokesperson said: “Police were called to Tulse Hill, SW2, shortly before 10pm on Monday, May 20 to reports of shots fired. Officers attended. Evidence of firearms being discharged was discovered at the scene near to a supermarket, where a window was smashed.
“There are no firearm-related injuries, one member of the public shopping in the store grazed her knee after dropping to the floor. There have been no arrests. Enquiries are ongoing. Any witnesses or anyone with any information about the incident is asked to call 101, quoting CAD 8518/20May”
Traffic is holding up well in the area but there are several bus routes diverted due to the road closure. These are the 2, 415, 432, SL6 and N2 which are diverted in both directions via Christchurch Road and Brixton Hill. Buses will not serve stops ‘Hardel Rise'(D) to ‘St Matthews Estate'(P) and ‘St Matthews Estate'(A) to ‘High Tress'(G).
