His mum said he had a ‘contagious smile that would light up the room’

The young man stabbed to death in an attack in Lewisham on Tuesday (October 28) has been named as 20-year-old Messiah Robb. Messiah was stabbed on Benin Street, near the junction with Hither Green Lane, at around 3:20pm yesterday.

Police found him there and paramedics managed to get him to hospital. Sadly, doctors were unable to save him and he died.

As the Met appeals for help from the public in finding his killer, Messiah’s mum has shared a heartbreaking tribute to her son.

“The loss of Messiah has left a hole in our hearts which will never be filled,” she said, Messiah was a son, a brother, a grandson, a nephew, a cousin and a friend. His family and friends have been left devastated. He was a bubbly young man with a contagious smile that would light up the room.”

DCI Craig Magee, from the Met’s Specialist Crime unit, described the attack as ‘senseless’ and, in an appeal to the public, highlighted that Messiah was stabbed in the middle of the afternoon.

“Yesterday, a senseless attack took a much-loved man away from his family, friends and community,” he said, “Our thoughts are with them at this unimaginably difficult time.

“There is no place for knife crime on our streets. I’d again like to reassure local residents that myself and my team are working meticulously to find those responsible.

“This attack took place in broad daylight. There were witnesses. If you happen to have been around Hither Green Lane between 15:00 and 15:30 – or know anything about the incident – please do not hesitate to contact us. You can also share information anonymously via Crimestoppers.”

All information can be shared to the Met via 101, quoting 4648/28OCT. If people wish to speak confidentially they can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 – sharing the same reference number.
