Eagle-eyed shoppers have spotted some post-Easter bargains at a major supermarket – including the beloved Cadbury Creme Eggs which you can now grab (if you’re quick) for just 25p
Easter may be over – but our appetite for a cheeky Cadbury Creme Egg or two certainly isn’t.
Brits gobble down around 400 million Creme Eggs each year, as the chocolate has slowly become a year-round favourite since their inception in 1923. But as chocolate giants like Cadbury and Lindt raise their prices to offset the increasing cost of ingredients like sugar and cocoa – many of us are cutting back on our indulgent pleasures.
However, eagle-eyed shoppers have spotted one supermarket currently flogging the sweet treats for a bargain price. You’ll have to act quickly, as they’re flying off the shelves already.
Taking to the Extreme Couponing and Bargains Facebook group, which has a whopping 2.4 million members, one person snapped a photo of the discounted chocolate. The image shows a five-pack of Creme Eggs at Tesco will now only set you back £1.25 – that works out at just 25p per egg.
Normally, shoppers have to fork out around 70p for a single chocolate – saving you 35p a pop! Other members noted that the retailer is also selling a Creme Egg chocolate bar for £1.12 – down from £1.40. The bar, which features the gooey centre we all know and love – is half-price at Ocado, currently priced at just 75p.

While debates around the proper way to eat a Creme Egg (is it socially acceptable to scoop the insides out with your fingers?) – Cadbury fans were recently left baffled after discovering an unusual ingredient used to dye the fondant centre yellow. On a visit to Cadbury HQ in Bournville, a spokesperson for the company told Daily Star the yolk gets it colour from ‘paprika’.
Yes, that’s right: the spice you probably add to your homemade curries and chilis is also used in Creme Eggs. Whilst this may come as a shock, the answer has always been right in front of us. Check the ingredients list and you’ll see ‘Colouring (paprika extract)’ right at the end. Nom nom!
