Cadbury makes big change to popular chocolate and shoppers brand it ‘sick joke’

A woman has been left fuming after she discovered that Cadbury has made a huge change to one of its popular products. It’s since been deemed a “sick joke”

Many Brits adore chocolate, but occasionally manufacturers shake things up and alter some beloved favourites. One shopper, named Tess, was left stunned after spotting that Cadbury had made a significant change to one of its well-known products.

Whilst out shopping recently, Tess noticed something different as she perused the chocolate aisle, which was starting to stock cherished festive treats. She spotted that one box of Cadbury chocolates seemed rather unusual, and was gobsmacked when she clocked what it looked like on the shelf.

In the clip, Heroes chocolates appear noticeably different from normal. The container has completely changed, and Heroes look nothing like you might recall them.

Tess said: “Is this some kind of sick joke? Right, do they not even do tubs anymore? Are they just cardboard? I mean, I’m all here for sustainability, but this is a joke. Surely?”

When she reveals what the Heroes look like, the traditional tub has clearly been swapped for a cardboard box. She quipped that it was such a surprise, she thinks it ought to be discussed in the House of Commons.

Since Tess posted the clip, it’s racked up thousands of views, and people were swift to respond. Not everyone held the same opinion though.

One person agreed with Tess, commenting: “This is so depressing.” Another remarked: “Every year they take the fun out of things just a little bit more.”

However, the change has been met with a positive response from many. Numerous people have lauded the new packaging, declaring it to be “much better.”

One person chimed in with: “Like this better. What do we ever really do with the tubs?” Another added: “Nah, this is a change I can get behind.”

A third individual stated: “I think the cardboard is genius.” Another person also joined the conversation, asking: “Why would you want a plastic tub? What’s wrong with that box? It looks so nice.”

In case you missed it, Cadbury has swapped its traditional plastic tubs for cardboard packaging in Tesco stores nationwide. The brand hasn’t just altered the boxes physically, but has also made slight changes to their contents during the tub trial.

The company announced it would be replacing its Cadbury Eclairs with Cadbury Flakes for the duration of the experiment, a move that has left some shoppers scratching their heads. It seems Brits are split over some of the suggested changes.

The Cadbury trial is said to be for a limited period only. Its goal is to gain a broader understanding of the future Heroes assortment selection and wider packaging initiatives.

“The paper tubs demonstrate once more Mondelez’s commitment to driving sustainable packaging solutions and this test and learn initiative in partnership with Tesco will help inform our long-term efforts to reduce virgin plastic.”

“For 25 years, Cadbury Heroes has been a beloved brand, bringing friends and loved ones together with its iconic assortment,” added Christina Bland, Brand Manager for Cadbury. “The Heroes paper tub trial represents a step in our active work to explore new packaging solutions for our portfolio.

“This trial will inform our long-term packaging approach, and we are also excited to introduce Cadbury Flake to the assortment for this trial, offering a new favourite for consumers to enjoy.”
