The Prince of Wales was seen having a pub lunch with mother-in-law Carole Middleton in Norfolk and insiders have revealed she has become like a “second mum” to William

Prince William recently had a pub lunch with Carole Middleton who has become like a “second mum” to the heir to the throne, said an insider.

The Waleses have been spending a quiet Easter break following Kate’s announcement that she is suffering from cancer that was found in tests following abdominal surgery in January. They did not join other royals for the Easter Sunday service and traditional get-together in Windsor.

Instead, William and Kate have been with their children at their country retreat of Amner Hall in Norfolk. And reports have told how the Prince of Wales popped into a pub last weekend with Kate’s mum Carole, who has also been staying with the family.

The form of cancer has not been disclosed, but Kate began a course of preventative chemotherapy late in February, and is said to have a positive mindset for her recovery and is in good spirits, describing herself as “well and getting stronger every day”.

Carole’s presence has been important for her daughter, and also for William with insiders saying she is now like a “second mum”, reported The Sun, by bringing “a real sense of normality amid any chaos”.

William was recently spotted at a pub in North Norfolk, according to the Daily Mail with a customer saying: “It was all very low-key, with no great fanfare. He just walked in and through the pub. He appeared to be with Carole Middleton.”

It is believed that Carole and Michael Middleton have both been helping out with looking after their grandchildren George, Charlotte and Louis following Kate’s diagnosis. And royal expert Jennie Bond said that while Carole is a tower of strength, she will also have been devastated by the news that Kate has cancer.

She told The Mirror: “We should also spare a thought for another mother in this – Carole Middleton. Catherine may be 42, but she is still Carole’s little girl, and to watch her go through this and withstand the bullying pressure to explain must have been desperately upsetting. She has no doubt been a tower of strength and a comforting presence for the children, but she, too, will need reassurance.”
