A Charlton man who beat his friend to death in his own home last year has been found guilty of manslaughter. Radoslaw Brzezicki, 42, assaulted Robert Dlugosz on Erwood Road on November 22, 2023 following an argument.
The 60-year-old passed away in hospital three days later. Before his death, the native Polish speaker managed to identify his attacker to police using a translation app.
Officers were first called to the scene in Greenwich when a woman in her 40s called to say she and Dlugosz had escaped the latter’s house. She too had been physically assaulted by Brzezicki.
Upon arrival, police found Robert alive but severely injured. Shortly after giving his account of what happened, he collapsed and was taken for emergency surgery.
A post-mortem examination found his cause of death was due to a traumatic brain injury. Brzezicki, also of Erwood Road, was arrested shortly after and charged with manslaughter.
A jury delivered a guilty verdict at Isleworth Crown Court today (June 25). He was also convicted of causing actual bodily harm to the female victim and will be sentenced for both crimes on Thursday, July 24.
Detective Chief Inspector Samantha Townsend, from Specialist Crime South, and who led the investigation said: “Robert died in appalling circumstances, having been brutally assaulted by someone who claimed to be his friend. Due to the first-hand account Robert was able to give officers – while critically injured – justice has been done.
“I would also like to pay tribute to the surviving victim in this case. Her assistance to the police from day one was vital. She showed great courage and determination throughout what has no doubt been a very traumatic time.
“My thoughts and that of my officers, remain with all Robert’s friends and loved ones.”
