Samsung has confirmed that it will begin releasing its next big software upgrade to devices this week – check now to see if you are one of the lucky ones.
The Galaxy S24 might be the latest and greatest new device from Samsung but it seems the Korean technology giant hasn’t forgotten about its older smartphones. It’s been confirmed that later this week, a massive operating system upgrade will be released that will bring some of the newest features found on the Galaxy S24 to other phones already in people’s pockets.
The update, called One UI 6.1, will begin to arrive on Galaxy call makers before the end of March meaning there are just a few days left to wait.
So what’s included in this release and who will get it?
One UI 6.1 is all about Galaxy AI with older phones being treated to things such as Live Translate which can translate phone calls to and from foreign countries in real-time. Chat Assist is also being added to help users change the tone of their message to suit who they are chatting with. For example, it can switch the language used when sending a message to the boss rather than a family member.
Other AI upgrades include Circle to Search which allows users to circle something in an image with an instant Google search taking place to reveal what or where it is.
Those who make endless scribblings will like Note Assist with this feature creating formats and generating summaries automatically to make things easier to read.
Transcript Assist is also being added which will transcribe recordings or interviews into fully editable text.
Those who love snapping photos and videos on their devices will also be pleased to hear that additional ways to edit things are coming in this release.
Generative Edit can easily resize, reposition, or realign objects in photos to perfect the ideal shot in seconds. Users can also polish any photo faster and easier than ever with Edit Suggestion which does all the hard work for them and makes everything Instagram ready in a flash.
Finally, thanks to Instant Slow-mo it will be possible to turn any video already shot into a slow-motion video – that’s not something that’s been available before.
Here is the full list of phones getting this upgrade.
The update will be available across the Galaxy S23 series, S23 FE, Z Fold5, Z Flip5 and Tab S9 series
“Our goal with Galaxy AI is not only to pioneer a new era of mobile AI, but also to empower users by making AI more accessible,” said TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics. “This is only the beginning of Galaxy AI, as we plan to bring the experience to over 100 million Galaxy users within 2024 and continue to innovate ways to harness the unlimited possibilities of mobile AI.”
