A recent poll involving 600 children aged 6 to 12 and their parents has uncovered the fantastical travel dreams of youngsters, with desires ranging from indulging in ice cream for every meal to exploring magic-themed amusement parks and beaches teeming with all kinds of fish and sea creatures.

The survey also highlighted kids’ wishes to visit museums dedicated to their beloved fictional characters. It turns out that a whopping 98% of parents involve their children in holiday planning, with 82% believing it adds more fun to their getaways. Commissioned by Crayola in collaboration with Jet2holidays, the research coincides with the launch of a competition inviting children to draw their ideal holiday vision.

A spokesperson for Crayola commented: “We can finally see how fun it could be if you let the kids plan the whole holiday and unleash the full scope of their imaginations.

“It’s also really lovely to know how much parents appreciate their little one’s ideas when it comes to choosing where to go and what to do.

“If only all the magical and wonderful things kids can imagine could come true and make their trips even more unforgettable.”

The study further revealed that children’s imaginations know no bounds – 51% dream of riding unicorns or dragons (45%) on their holidays, while others fantasise about meeting dinosaurs (42%) or knights (35%).

A staggering 81% of people yearn for a world filled with more enchantment, and 67% confess that holidays evoke that magical feeling, albeit fleetingly.

The study also revealed that a whopping 86% of kids are eager to have their voices heard when it comes to holiday decisions, with 88% desiring a say in the activities they partake in while away.

Despite this, 68% of parents claim they do consider their children’s preferences regarding holiday activities (68%), excursions (48%), and destinations (29%).

An impressive 69% of parents admit they prioritise their children’s holiday wishes over their own, with nearly half of the holiday itinerary being tailored to the little ones’ fancies.

Research conducted by OnePoll.com also uncovered that six out of ten parents find their children’s creativity a source of personal inspiration, with 51% saying the same about their offspring’s imagination. Furthermore, 59 % of adults believe there’s much to gain from viewing the world through the innocent eyes of a child.

The lucky winner of the competition will not only witness their imaginative drawing come to life but will also bag £1,000 worth of vouchers for a getaway with the UK’s leading tour operator.

Crayola’s spokesperson chimed in: “We want to harness the imagination in every child and celebrate their creativity to inspire them to dream big. So, we encourage anyone interested to sign up to our competition and make your dream holiday ideas come to life.

“And when you pick up one of our products to help unleash your creativity, you can also get money off towards a holiday so you can continue exploring the world.”
