Cleaning experts have recommended a simple method for cleaning and reviving wooden floors – and it only requires one natural item you may already have in your kitchen cupboard.

Dust adores clinging to countless spots throughout the house such as windowsill tops, blinds, skirting boards and naturally on timber floors.

Whilst there’s a vast array of floor cleaners designed specifically for hardwood surfaces, what you require might simply be lurking in your kitchen cabinet.

Cleaning specialists at All Kleen have suggested households utilise black tea on their timber floors to restore and clean them.

They stated: “In addition to being a comforting and refreshing drink for your body, black tea can also refresh and even clean your hardwood floors.”

They clarified that the tannins in black tea function as a gentle and warm stain that draws out the natural warm hues from your hardwood flooring.

The tannins are acidic so they can easily slice through grime, dust and grease whilst preventing a build-up of it all for extended periods.

For this technique you’ll require approximately eight to 10 tea bags and, naturally, the more you include the more vibrant the colour of the stain will become, reports the Express.

For darker floors utilise eight to 10 tea bags, then for lighter floors, employ 10 to 12. Should you test the tea and determine it’s too dark, you can lighten it by incorporating more water.

Prior to mopping, vacuum or sweep the floors to eliminate most of the dust and debris. Then bring half a gallon of water to boiling point and brew the tea bags in the hot water for 10 to 15 minutes.

Afterwards, extract the tea bags, ensuring to squeeze all the remaining liquid into the water before discarding the tea bag. Next, allow the tea to cool down to a tepid temperature before pouring it into a bucket.

It’s always wise to test the tea on an inconspicuous part of your floor to ensure you’re pleased with the outcome.

When using the tea to mop the floor, ensure you wring out the mop thoroughly and move in the direction of the wood grain.

After applying it to the entire floor, let it dry and revel in your newly revitalised and gleaming wooden flooring.
