A TikTok user has left people gobsmacked after revealing that they’ve been using fans ‘wrong’ their entire lives – and has shared the ‘correct’ way to use them in a viral clip
As Brits bask in the weekend sunshine, the sweltering heat can turn into a nuisance when it’s time to sleep. The boiling hot weather and humid temperatures often leads to restless and uncomfortable nights as you toss aside the duvet, desperate for some cool relief.
Fans are a godsend in the scorching weather, but what if you’ve been using them all wrong? TikTok star Leah White, with over 11,000 followers on her account @leahwhite4828, has caused quite the stir by suggesting we’ve all been misusing fans.
In her viral video, racking up an impressive 1.2 million views, Leah reveals her 28-year-long fan faux pas, despite believing there was only one way to use it. Leah, battling the heat herself, shared the revelation with her video caption: “How did it take me 28 years to know this?!.”
She explained: “We’re in a new build and it’s quite a small house, so it retains heat so well and it’s absolutely boiling every night.
“‘We’ve been having a fan on and we’ve been waking up sniffing and we’ve got a cold – and I’m guessing that’s from having a fan on all night.
“I saw someone’s TikTok saying that’s not how fans are used in bedrooms. I’m 28 years old – and please someone tell me that I’m not the only one who didn’t know this.
“Apparently you’re meant to have the fan facing a window with the windows open – and then you turn the fan on and it basically sucks all of the warm air out of the room outside.
“And then at night when it’s cool turn it to other way around and it pulls the cool fresh night air in. I’ve just had it on for 15 minutes and my room is probably the coolest it has ever been.
“Did anyone else know this or was it just me being absolutely stupid?” She queried.
Since sharing the video online back during another heatwave in 2022, Leah’s clip has garnered over 2,700 comments to date – where people expressed their utter surprise.
“I didn’t know but shall try it,” one person penned.
“What?!” A second questioned. “I’ve just had it blowing directly in my face. I’m way older than you and just learned this today,” another shared.
A third wrote: “I never knew that, but I do remember walking past a house that had two fans in a window like that, and I thought that was odd. But I will try it now.”
Another added: “I need to try this. I have never known this and I am 33.”
