A Costa Coffee employee is adamant they served a ghost while working a quiet shift when an apparent order was made. The person shared the eerie situation in a post online
A person has claimed they served a “ghost” at Costa Coffee. A post to the r/Costa Reddit page was shared by someone who was told the information by a friend during a shift at the chain. While it may be more than likely the person ordering the coffee simply didn’t show up, it does sound like an eerie experience with the much-loved coffee chain.
Now a post to the forum had a person recall the incident, with many believing it could have been either bad timing, or truly a spirit with a desire to quench their thirst at Costa Coffee. Cooler heads have prevailed and suggested it may be a collection order, but there are some who believe there was a spirit in the store.
The incident happened at a Costa Coffee location, the specific store was not noted by the user. But they did share the eerie details behind what could have been a ghostly encounter.
They wrote: “My mate swears he served a ghost order at Costa. So my friend works at Costa and he told me this weird/funny story. The till suddenly pinged during a quiet moment, showing a cappuccino order.
“He went through the whole process- grind, shot, steam, foam, the works. When he placed it on the counter and called it out, nobody came forward. He checked the café, checked outside, even asked co-workers if they’d seen anyone.
“Nothing. Just a lonely cappuccino sitting there. He said it honestly felt like a ghost ordered it and dipped.”
Some were unconvinced it was a ghost, instead opting to believe it’s the internal ordering system requesting a coffee for someone who had not yet made it to the store.
One person wrote: “Most likely a collection order and they aren’t usually in the store when it comes through and turn up five to 10 minutes later to get it.”
It comes amid a separate post to the r/Costa subreddit, with a worker left stunned by their boss’ response to testing positive for Covid-19.
Posting in a Costa thread and not naming the specific branch, she wrote: “Hey, I’ve been ill for a few days and just tested positive for Covid. It’s hitting me pretty hard. I told my manager, and he said I can still work, and it just counts as a normal absence.
“I’ve got a shift tomorrow, but I don’t think it’s safe or fair to come in while I’m this unwell and contagious. Is this really how Costa handles it? Has anyone else dealt with this? What should I do?”
One person wrote: “You shouldn’t be working if you’re ill, even if asymptomatic, as you could be passing on germs that could affect an immunocompromised person worse than you, especially in such a customer-facing role.”
Another added: “This happened to me when I worked with children and babies. The managers wanted me in. I just took the time off as I felt dreadful, and wouldn’t forgive myself if I’d passed that onto a vulnerable child. If you feel like c**p, stay home and get better.”
