Leicester couple discover ‘jackpot’ after ripping up carpet in their new home
A couple from Leicester recently decided to rip up the carpet of of their new home and were stunned when they realised what was underneath. Renovating a house can be incredibly stressful but also exciting.
While you might have an exact idea of how you want things to look, you might find some surprises along the way. And some surprises might be even better than you could have imagined.
Couple Sam Frith and Bekah Grace bought a 100-year-old house earlier in the month and have been busy renovating it ever since – but they didn’t expect to “hit the jackpot” after pulling out the old carpet in the hallway.
When the couple ripped up the carpet after buying the properly, they discovered stunning herringbone flooring underneath, covering the hallway. They were shocked when they realised the trendy flooring was in “almost perfect condition”. Sam and Bekah estimate the flooring would have cost up to £1,800 if they had purchased it.
They have since documented the find on their @sparrowcrofthome Instagram account, where it’s had thousands of views. Speaking of finding the herringbone flooring, which gives homes timeless elegance, Bekah, 28, who says the couple have “basically no renovation experience”, added: “We were shocked. It had obviously been preserved by the underlay and carpets on top for many years.
“I don’t think any of us expected to find something so beautiful. Finding this flooring was such a gift. Sam and I really wanted a home we could restore and preserve the history of.
“Having the opportunity to bring this gorgeous herringbone floor back to life feels incredibly special.”
In the clip Bekah can be seen pulling up a chunk of the carpet, unveiling the gorgeous flooring underneath – and looks visibly amazed. Bekah said: “Oh my goodness,” before tearing up more of the carpeting.
The couple were amazed to see the entire hallway boasted the covered herringbone design, which looks to be in exceptional shape. Many others were equally stunned by the discovery.
One person commented: “Wow that’s so lucky,” while another added: “That really is the jackpot”. And a third commented: “That’s the dream right there.”
Someone else wrote: “Oh wow! Why would you carpet over it?” while another commented: “What an insane find!”
