Air fryer fans, get ready to rejoice! Good Food has shared a ridiculously simple way to rustle up mac and cheese that’s both sumptuously cheesy with a golden crust.

This mac and cheese recipe is a truly delicious and indulgent dish, with a rich, cheesy sauce and a crisp, golden topping. Not only remarkably quick, but using the air fryer also gives this comfort food classic an even better crunch. The recipe note reads: “Use your air fryer to make a classic mac and cheese – the ultimate comfort food dish. Cooking it in an air fryer creates a lovely crisp topping.”

Here’s how you can create mac and cheese magic with the air fryer, as reports the Express.

Ingredients

  • 250g macaroni
  • 300ml whole milk
  • 30g butter
  • 30g plain flour
  • 65g mature cheddar, grated
  • One tsp English mustard
  • 30g panko breadcrumbs

Method

  1. Allow the sauce to come to a gentle boil, then continue cooking for one more minute before removing it from the heat.
  2. Mix in the mustard and all but a small portion of the grated cheddar, stirring until the cheese is completely melted.
  3. Transfer the cooked pasta into an ovenproof dish suitable for use in an air fryer. Pour over the cheese sauce and stir lightly so the pasta is evenly coated.
  4. Mix the remaining cheddar with the breadcrumbs and sprinkle the mixture evenly over the top. Cook in the air fryer at 180C for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the top is golden and the sauce is visibly bubbling.
