BTP need to speak to the man pictured as soon as possible
An investigation is underway after a woman was pushed to the ground during a robbery in Croydon. The victim, in her late 60s, was waiting at the George Street tram stop at around 9.50am on July 30 when she was approached by a man.
He snatched a black holdall bag from her person, pulling the woman to the pavement in the process. While not seriously injured, the incident left her bruised.
The thief fled towards East Croydon station and is yet to be traced. The British Transport Police (BTP) is now appealing for the public’s help to identify a person of interest.
A statement reads: “Officers believe the man in the CCTV image may have information that could help with their investigation.” The footage shows a Black man of average height and medium build.
He is wearing a black t-shirt and matching puffer vest and shorts. He is also wearing black trainers and a dark-coloured baseball cap.
The appeal comes days after MyLondon reported the theft of an elderly man at Finsbury Park station. He had been waiting for a lift when a fellow passenger restrained him and made of with his wallet, which contained £200.
Anyone who recognises the man pictured is urged to BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 185 of 30 July. Anonymous reports can also be made to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or the charity’s website.
