Croydon fatal shooting scene first photos as forensics investigate death of man in his 40s

An investigation is underway into the fatal shooting of a man in his 40s gunned down near Costco in Croydon yesterday evening (June 19) Pictures taken on Imperial Way show a forensics team examining the stretch of road between the superstore’s car park and Selco following the daylight attack.

Specialist officers are also using a drone as part of the investigation. Police were called to the scene shortly after 5pm, with paramedics treating the man for multiple injuries.

He was pronounced dead on the roadside shortly after. A tent and cordon remains in place this afternoon.

Police have not released the victim’s name but is supporting his family, according to a statement issued this afternoon. The Metropolitan Police’s Major Incident Team is now investigating the daylight attack and is urging witnesses to make themselves known.

Detective Chief Inspector Dan Whitten, leading the investigation from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, said: “This was a tragic incident and my thoughts are with the man’s family at this difficult time. Our team of specially trained officers are supporting them as are our investigation progresses.

“Our enquiries are ongoing and we would urge any witnesses to come forward and share information with us.”
