Investigators found the Thornton Heath pair carried out the operation 105 times across 17 UK prisons
Two South Londoners used a drone to fly Class A drugs, knives and mobile phones into 17 prisons across the UK. Bradley Scott, 27 and Jevonte White, 18, carried out a sophisticated operation between January and June last year which involved packing the items into drink cartons.
During their sentencing the court heard how they programmed the drone so it could fly as close to prisoner cell windows as possible. The South East Regional Organised Crime Unit caught wind of their set-up and charged the pair last June.
Investigators found they supplied these dangerous items to prisoners 105 times during the six-month period. In court Scott and White both pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy to convey prohibited articles into prisons.
Scott, of Limpsfield Avenue, Thornton Heath as given a six year prison sentence following a hearing at Lewes Crown Court on Thursday, August 28. White, of Nutfield Road, Thornton Heath, was sentenced to one year and 11 months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years at the same hearing.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Ian Bradshaw said: “Having drugs, weapons and mobile phones illegally brought into prisons makes the work of prison officers much harder than it already is. Once the items are inside prisons, they have to be paid for, which creates debts for inmates, which then have to paid, which can then lead to violence.
“Weapons in prisons also put inmates at a much higher risk of serious injury or even death, along with the obvious risk which is posed to prison staff. Scott and White went to great lengths to conceal their offending, and put together intricate plans to bring these items into prisons. I hope that this case demonstrates that whatever lengths offenders go to, they will be caught and brought to justice.”
