A man from Croydon who violently raped a 13-year-old girl in an alleyway near the Whitgift Centre has been jailed. Sorosh Amini, of Station Road, approached his victim on North End Road last August and persistently tried to engage her in conversation, blatantly ignoring requests to be left alone.
The 21-year-old then pursued her down the street before forcibly kissing her in a side passage. He attempted to shove a cannabis joint in her mouth and told her he was friends with someone recently stabbed someone in the area.
The teenager, now petrified he had a knife, was then raped. Amini fled the capital the day after the horrific act but police identified him on CCTV and placed him at the scene using specialist sniffer dogs.
The South Londoner was tracked to Liverpool via phone data and camera footage and arrested him five days later. He was sentenced to seven years in prison on Friday, June 27, five months after being found guilty of rape and sexual assault.
A 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order was also issued by the judge at Croydon Crown Court.
Detective Inspector Donnett Oseni, who led the investigation at the Metropolitan Police, said: “Amini’s attack on this vulnerable girl was predatory and calculated. He has demonstrated himself to be a dangerous sexual offender and this sentence prevents him from harming anyone else.
“I want to commend the victim for her courage in coming forward and reporting this offence to us. I hope today’s verdict will bring her and her family some semblance of closure.”
