Croydon shooting victim named as specialist officers support his family

The man shot dead near the Purley Way in Croydon has been named by the Met Police as detectives leading the case charge a man with his murder. Police rushed to reports of a shooting on Imperial Way near Costco at just after 5pm on Thursday (June 19).

There officers and paramedics found a man in his 40s. Despite their best efforts he was pronounced dead on the roadside shortly after. A forensics tent and large police cordon remained in place between the superstore’s car park entrance and the loading bay of Selco into Friday.

The victim has been named this morning (Tuesday, June 24) as Anthony Morrison, 41. His next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

Detectives have also named Byron Cole, 39, of Gleneldon Road, in Streatham, after he was charged with murdering Mr Morrison and being in possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life. He has been remanded to custody and will appear at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, June 24.

A 37-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
